General information

The long sandy beach of Kantouni is located 5 kilometers northwest of Pothia, the capital of Kalymnos, within walking distance from Panormos village. It stands out for its magical sunsets and gorgeous views of an imposing mountain, on top of which stands the Monastery of the Holy Cross.

Organized with umbrellas and sunbeds, it boasts a series of beach bars that operate till the early morning hours, becoming a pole of attraction for the youth. There are also some nice accommodations, taverns and cafes along the seafront. Despite the fact that it is often choppy, it is one of the most popular beaches among locals, so it can sometimes get a bit crowded. Local buses connect Pothia with Kantouni on a daily basis.

    Good base for trips
    Kantouni is a popular resort on the western side of Kalymnos. Probably the most popular resort in Kalymnos together with Panormos and Massouri, but do not have the picture of a crowded tourist place. Certainly all resorts in Kalymnos are a lot quieter than in other islands. The beach is not very large but it is organized and has some delicious taverns by the seaside. The water is clean, I could stay in the sea for hours and usually we would swim till a small neighboring island opposite Kantouni. A quite long way in fact! Lots of accommodation in Kantouni and some clubs at the far end of the village. Regular buses to the capital and other beaches in the area and also lots of bike rentals. A good base for trips in the inland.
