Tinos Xynara

General information

Built on the slopes of Mount Xombourgo, 8 kilometers from Tinos Town, Xinara is a beautiful traditional settlement that used to be the island’s cultural, educational and industrial center.

For hundreds of years, it has also been the seat of the Catholic Archdiocese of Naxos and Tinos, with the impressive church of Our Lady of the Rosary serving as the island’s Catholic cathedral. Right next to the church, visitors will also find the imposing Bishop’s Palace, which houses the Museum of Sacred Relics, a collection of holy gospels, crosses, rare manuscripts and other interesting exhibits from the 23 Catholic parishes of Tinos and other Cycladic islands. Within the same building, one can see the Archives of the Catholic Archdiocese, the oldest and most complete record of the island and its history.
