Tinos Tripotamos

General information

Set against the background of the imposing Mount Exomvourgo and offering magnificent views of Delos, Tripotamos is a traditional settlement built between three rivers. Being one of the oldest villages on the island, it is a true architectural marvel, as the stone-built houses stand so close to one another that they create an impenetrable wall that afforded its inhabitants protection from pirate raids. Indeed, it is a veritable maze of narrow alleys, archways and covered passages created by the upper floors of the houses themselves!

Strolling around the village, visitors will soon arrive at the Folklore Museum of Tripotamos, a restored Tinian residence boasting a collection of ornately carved wooden pieces of furniture, farming tools, a loom and an oil press, as well as ceramics and other everyday items that give an insight into what life in Tinos was like in the past centuries. Moreover, the village boasts an elegant church dedicated to the Presentation of the Virgin Mary to the Temple, which has beautiful marble decorations and a cobblestone courtyard.

Tripotamos is one of the closest villages to Tinos Town and is strategically located at the point where various hiking paths start, leading to various traditional settlements such as Kardiani, Pyrgos, Isternia and Ktikado, as well as to the Kechrovouni Monastery.

Bonus info: The internationally renowned modern Greek philosopher Cornelius Castoriadis was so attracted to this village that he kept a house there, spending long periods of time in Tripotamos during the last years of his life.
