Housed in the eastern wing of Evangelistria Church, the Exhibition of Ecclesiastical Relics prides itself on a rich collection of rare 17th-19th century icons from various Tinian churches, as well as an assortment of impressive religious relics.
The two oldest icons date from the 14th and the 15th century, while of particular interest are also the ones painted by the renowned Greek painters Photis Kontoglou and Nikiforos Lytras. Among other notable exhibits, visitors will have the chance to see a series of elaborate wood-carved works, including ornate altarpieces, crosses, liturgical fans and an epitaphios.
What is more, the exhibition displays a golden ring donated to the Evangelistria Church by the Greek revolutionary Theodoros Kolokotronis, as well as one of the very few original Chartas (maps) of Greece drafted by Rigas Velestinlis, one of the leading exponents of the Modern Greek Enlightenment.
