mrnickers60 16 Jun 2012A Word of WarningWe visited Sikinos in 2009, and had a wonderful relaxed week staying in Alopronia. For a change of scenery we decided to take the bus to Agios Georgios Beach for the day, which is about a 20 minute bus ride away. It's a nice quiet bay with a taverna and a reasonable sand beach. However there is a massive population of wasps on the beach which appear to be attracted to the salt, and swarm around the water, and people sat on the beach. If you go for a swim you'll attract them by the dozen once you get back on the beach. Although we didn't see anyone get stung, and the locals seemed unbothered by them, if you're not keen on insects it's probably best to give this beach a miss. My girlfriend was completely freaked by them, and we had to wait 2 hours for the next bus back!! It seemed however just to be resticted to this beach, and the beach in Alopronia is absolutely fine. Apart from this, Sikinos is a wonderfully peaceful island on which to unwind.
