General information

Stretching to the east of Artemonas, Panagia Poulati is a small rocky cove of wild, untamed beauty. Though not particularly suited to families with little children, it is very popular with couples and is just the place for you if you like this kind of landscape and don’t mind walking a bit to get there. The crystalline azure waters will surely reward you, while the seabed, covered with big stones, has a rich marine life that is well worth exploring.

Close to the beach, there is also a chapel dedicated to Panagia Poulati, which has given the place its name. Nestled among the rocks, it boasts magnificent views of Kastro and the sea and ranks among the most picturesque chapels on the entire island. Its big blue dome and its distinctive belfry make it stand out and provide a great sample of the local architecture.

Poulati can be accessed in two ways. The first is to drive along a dirt road starting from Artemonas and park your vehicle near the church. If you decide to follow the same route on foot, it will take around 30 minutes. The other way is to hike along a flat path starting from Kastro, which is somewhat shorter and takes about 20 minutes. Both routes lead to the chapel, and, from there, you will have to descend approximately 90 steps to get to the beach.
