Sifnos Apokofto (Chrissopigi) beach

General information

The cape of Chrissopigi is located on the south side of Sifnos, 8 km from Apollonia and in proximity to the seaside settlement of Faros. This is one of the most famous destinations on the island, known for its natural beauty and enchanting ambiance. The area took its name from the Monastery of Chrissopigi built on a rock overlooking the sea. The monastery dates to the 17th century and is renowned for housing the miraculous icon of Panagia Chrissopigi.

North of the monastery lies an idyllic beach that combines the tranquil atmosphere of the area with the unique features that compose the irresistible Cycladic landscape. Known as Apokofto Beach, it boasts soft sand and green-blue waters and is surrounded by a long tuft of trees. The waters are clean and ideal for a refreshing dip. The rocky nature of Chirssopigi adds to the intriguing charm of the beach, with some especially tall rocks making for some popular jumping-off points among beach-goers.

The beach is not well-organized and does not offer sunbeds or umbrellas for rent. A few restaurants lie just behind the shore, perfect for grabbing a bite and an ice-cold beverage after your relaxing swim. A handful of accommodations can be found in the wider region as well, providing easy access to the beach and beautiful panoramic views of the sea. On the other side of the monastery, there is also a smaller, more secluded beach. Referred to as Saoures Beach, it features a pebbly shore and clean waters and is a great off-the-beaten-path destination.

Access to Apokofto is made possible through a 15-minute long drive from Apollonia. If you are not traveling with a private vehicle, you can choose to travel by bus. Frequent buses departing from Apollonia make stops right at the site of the monastery, from where the beach is just a 7-minute walk away. There is also a bus stop in the settlement of Faros, which is located less than 20 minutes from the beach on foot.
