General information

Monitsia Village is located in the Tragea Valley, near Halki and 14 km southeast of Naxos Town. The quaint village is home to only a few permanent residents but sees a fair amount of visitors during the summer, with some choosing to build their holiday homes in the area. It features a collection of white-washed houses and flowered courtyards, set amidst beautiful olive groves.

The village features some impressive Byzantine Churches, mainly the domeless Basilica of Agios Sideros. Also worth visiting are the stone-built Church of Agios Antonios which houses a Byzantine icon of Saint Antonios and the Church of Agios Nikolaos. Near the village, you will find the church of Agios Georgios Diasoritis and the Byzantine Church of Taxiarchis Rahis.
