General information

The quaint village of Chimaros lies in the Tragea Valley, about 1 km from Halki. Chimaros translates into “torrent”, taking its name after the flowing waters that run next to the village in the spring and winter. It is located next to Tsikalario and together they form the settlement of Zoodochos Pigi.

The village's idyllic location affords it a lush green surrounding that is characterized by the many impressive rock formations scattered throughout. It is the perfect hiking destination, with many trails taking you through the enchanting landscapes and offering unparalleled views of the island. The area is dominated by the Upper Castle (Apano Kastro) on the north of Tsikalario which overlooks both villages and stands as a shining example of Venetian-era architecture. The parish church of Zoodohos Pigi is another important landmark, located halfway between Tsikalario and Chimaros.
