“Phos” is the Greek word for light. In the picturesque mountainous village of Chalki, 16 kilometers from Naxos’ Hora, the talented photographer Dimitris Gavalas established Phos Gallery during a period of crisis - and enriched his father’s hometown with its artistic presence.

The renowned photographer has worked in the past with the award-winning director Theodore Aggelopoulos, and the cinematic touch is apparent in his aesthetics. Black and white shots of panoramic views that glorify the raw beauty of the Naxian landscape, nostalgic portraits of the locals as well as a love for symmetry can best describe Gavalas’ work, which has a wide appeal in the audience.
