Naxos Island has a number of restaurants offering traditional Greek cuisine with a special emphasis on seafood. Platia Taverna is one such grill house which is centrally located and reasonably priced.

It is hard to miss this restaurant at the busy Protodikiou square and looks like an attractive little place from the outside. Its trademark green tables with red-checked tablecloths give the place a very authentic look. One can choose to be seated outdoor as well underneath a canopy of green leaves. The place is open from noon to late at night. The food here has been recommended by many and is even a local favorite.

One can begin the day here with a big variety for breakfast. Post 1:00 p.m, you can choose to start with some appetizers such as fried zucchini, bekri meze or shrimps with avocado, amongst many others. The variety gets bigger with the main course as one can select from traditional Greek dishes such as beef stifado, mousaka and oven cooked lamb or spaghetti dishes, pizzas and of course a variety of seafood!

These dishes are made using homemade recipes and are to be enjoyed with some of their local wines. There are also a number of delicious desserts available which include cakes, pastries, ice cream, yogurt etc. Portions here are large it is ideal for someone looking for a fulfilling meal. Good food is not the only offering here as there is a small bar in the corner which serves you with some wonderful spirits. One can even head here early in the evening for a drink or two. The cozy interiors and friendly staff make the place very likable.
