In just a 5-minute drive distance from Halki lies Damarionas, a quaint village that's been affected by tourism. In the village's central square, one can find Potērou, a well-hidden gem regarding the gastronomic experience in Naxos.
With its white tables placed on the paved floor and under the shade of a plane tree, Potērou serves Greek dishes consisting of local and fresh ingredients. Fried zucchini balls, salads with locally produced cheese, and tender meat plates, especially the lamb, are among guests' favorite options. Fried potatoes are also a not-to-miss since Naxos is famous for its potatoes. All dishes are delicious and come in hearty portions. Visitors can accompany their meal with a crisp wine or cold beer.
The setting is marvelous and allows you to immerse in the folk life. The sound of the cicadas adds an extra note to the tranquil ambiance. Except for that, the staff is helpful and polite, always happy to inform and serve you.

Very gourmet
The small and lovely town of Damarionas has one restaurant and needs no other. After sampling restaurants in Naxos town over 6 days, this unpretentious and remote spot in the mountains of Naxos was the best food experience thus far. I had rabbit in wine sauce with rice (as an option to the typical fries), baked sweet potatoes and a green salad with fig and baked xynomizithra cheese. I would have got the nice bottle of red wine that was offered had I known how fine the food would be. Just a mile from Filoti, where parking is a challenge. A special find away off the beat and path.
