Kythnos Megali Ammos (Kanala) beach

General information

Megali Ammos Beach, sometimes called Kanala Beach due to the homonymous Kanala settlement, is one of the most popular beaches on the tranquil island of Kythnos. Its shore features golden sand and a few tamarisk trees, lavishly offering shade to visitors, while its waters are azure and crystal-clear. Contrastingly to the nearby Antonides Beach, Megali Ammos is preferred by families, couples, and elders.

On the beach, one can select among charged sunbeds owned by the local beach bar and lay a tower on the unspoiled part of the coast. Beachfront accommodations surround Megali Ammos, and a restaurant-cafe is found a few meters from the shore. The small Ammoudaki Beach also lies in proximity.

Visitors can reach the beach by both car and bus. After swimming and eating, don't skip visiting the church of Panagia Kanala, one of the most important Orthodox churches of the Cyclades.
