Water Taxis in Koufonisia
One of the most popular ways of moving around Koufonisia —besides hiking and cycling— is via water taxis. These vessels offer a fast and highly enjoyable way of getting from one location to another.
Water taxis start operating routes around April or May, as soon as the temperature rises and the sea is relatively calm, and discontinue their operation around early October, when the weather conditions are no longer favorable.
Despite its diminutive size, Ano Koufonisi boasts an impressive fleet of caique (or lanza) boats that make the tour of the island on a daily basis, stopping at many of the most popular beaches, such as Finikas, Fanos, Platia Pounda and Pori. Provided the weather permits it, they are also a safe and easy way of approaching the magnificent Ksylompatis Caves and taking a dip in their mesmerizing turquoise waters.
Moreover, there are also regular routes to Kato Koufonisi, which take visitors to Nero Beach and the islet’s single tavern. Itineraries are available every 30 minutes or every 1 hour, depending on the company, and run from early in the morning till late in the evening.
Tickets can be purchased directly by the boat’s captain.
