Koufonisia Hiking
As hiking is one of the main transportation methods around the diminutive Koufonisia, the island features several hiking routes of moderate difficulty which take visitors through the most breathtaking spots on the island. Trek through the coastal and inland landscapes, explore stunning beaches and take in the magnificent sea vistas!
Below, you will find the top trails one can follow in Koufonisia.
It is strongly recommended that all hikers carry enough water and take the necessary sun protection measures, as there is no natural shade along the way. Moreover, don’t forget to put on comfortable shoes that are suitable for hiking.

• Trail 1: The Coastal Route (Chora - Pori - Ksylompatis Caves)
Starting at Chora, this route follows the island’s southeastern coast and passes by some of the best beaches, such as Chondros Kavos, Finikas, Fanos and Platia Pounda. Trekkers will also have the chance to pass by the magnificent Natural Pool and the Devil’s Eye before reaching the mesmerizing Pori Beach. From there, it is also possible to hike as far as the Ksylompatis Caves.

• Trail 2: The Inland Route (Chora - Pori)
The inland route takes you from Chora to Pori Beach, passing by a height with sublime views of Keros, Amorgos, and all the other neighboring islands.

• Trail 3: Pori-Gala Beach
This short route starts at Pori and follows the small peninsula you will find to the east, taking you to the unique Gala Beach. Please note that the descent to Gala Beach can be quite demanding.

• Trail 4: Chora - Profitis Ilias (circular route)
Allowing you to explore the western side of Ano Koufonisi, this route passes by the quaint Parianos Bay, where fishing boats and pleasure craft moor, and then turns inland towards Profitis Ilias, the highest point on the island (at an altitude of around 107 meters above sea level). At the peak, you will find the ruined chapel of Prophet Elias and enjoy extraordinary views of the island and the sea. Then, following a loop, you can return to Chora.

• Trail 5: Panagia-Pezoulia (Kato Koufonisi)
Starting at the abandoned Panagia settlement, near the Kato Koufonisi marina, this route will take you east, towards the gorgeous beaches of Detis, Nero and Pezoulia. Along the way, you will climb up to heights with amazing views. Please note that the last part of the path, from Nero to Pezoulia, will be more demanding.

• Trail 6: Panagia-Hawaii Beach (Kato Koufonisi)
From the Kato Koufonisi marina, you can head east towards the pristine Hawaii Beach.
