Housed on the premises of an old school building in the heart of Chora, the Archaeological Collection is an initiative aiming to showcase the pivotal role that the wider area of Koufonisia played in the early Bronze Age.

Though it does not feature a permanent collection yet, it often houses temporary exhibitions with findings from the neighboring Keros and Daskalio, two of the most significant sites of the early Cycladic civilization (3200-2100 BC). Forming part of the so-called Keros-Syros culture, which flourished between 2700-2300 BC, Keros is actually believed to have been the first island-sanctuary in the Aegean and has yielded significant findings that can be seen in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, the Museum of Cycladic Art and other notable museums around the world. Besides learning about the excavations in Keros, visitors can also see items discovered at the ancient settlements and burial grounds of Ano and Kato Koufonisi.

As the temporary exhibitions may not always be available, make sure to enquire on site about the Archaeological Collection’s operation and opening hours.
