General information

Around 150 meters north of Pori, you will find what is arguably one of the most breathtaking natural sights of Koufonisia: the Ksylompatis Caves. Gaping at the foot of a vertical cliff on the island’s northeastern coast, these two sea caves boast mind-blowing turquoise waters that make them one of the top swimming spots on the entire island. The first cave is actually open on both sides and you can swim right through it, while the second one has a unique surprise in store for you, as, at the back, you will find a tiny beach where you can relax in perfect solitude.

To get to this amazing spot, all you have to do is follow the trail that leads from Chora to Pori. Visitors looking for an adrenaline rush often jump off the cliff to dive into the crystalline waters below; however, it is good to bear in mind that the seabed is uneven and rocky in places, so you will need to be very careful. A much easier and safer way to make the most of the Ksylompatis Caves is to reach them by water taxi from Chora, though on windless days you could also swim there from Pori. In any case, hiking up to the edge of the cliff and gazing at the sublime sea views is a one-of-a-kind experience, especially at sunset, when the sun dyes the sky in an explosion of flaming hues!
