WHERE TO STAY? FIND THE BEST LOCATIONS

Information about the best locations for your hotel in Donoussa.

STAVROS, THE MAIN VILLAGE

Our recommendations: Althea Studios

Staying at Stavros, the Town of Donoussa is very convenient. It is the center of life on the island and has many shops, bakeries, bars, cafes, and restaurants.
Most units there are small apartments with direct access to the beach.
The beach of Stavros is sandy with clear waters ideal for families with small children, while the famous Kedros beach is only 10 minute's walk away.
If you want to discover further the island, there is a bus stop and a boat with daily tours. The village is built amphitheatrically facing the beach and the port and you will not need a car.

KALOTARITISSA OR HARAVGI

Our recommendations: Dimitrakis guesthouse (Haravgi)

A few hotels are also found in more remote places such as Haravgi (Mesarria) and Kalotaritissa.
They are small in number (less than 5) but really charming. These villages can be only approached by bus, car, or the sole taxi on the island.
Note that these villages do not have shops or other facilities.

Kalotaritissa is a small beach settlement and it is connected to the port by bus. There is a tavern, 3 lovely coves, and a few beach houses for rent.
In the region, there are no shops apart from a local tavern.
Haravgi settlement, on the other hand, is closer to Stavros town and Kedros beach but in a remote location with lovely sea views.

DONOUSSA, AN ISLAND WITH MINIMALLY DESIGNED ROOMS

Donoussa is a small island with limited tourist development and just a small number of hotel units.
Most of the hotels are found at Stavros, which is the port, and the island's main village.
The majority of accommodations are small, family-run units, rooms-to-let as well as some beach houses.

The island has a strong bohemian and laid-back atmosphere and was a free-camping destination for many years. Nowadays, the State is more strict in forbidding it and makes regular controls.
Nevertheless, Donoussa remains an alternative and hipster island. This means that a visitor should not expect to find lavish amenities or luxury hotels.

Small apartments with minimally designed rooms are what to expect when searching for a hotel on this Cycladic island.
Most of them are old structures that have been recently renovated. They consist of well-equipped rooms, a small kitchenette, and a terrasse offering a beautiful sea view.
Due to the small size of the island, access to a beach is very easy, and on foot.

The fact that the island is not as touristy as others might fool visitors into believing that they can book a hotel in Donoussa last minute. This is not the case with small islands like Donoussa.
Due to the limited number of units existing on the island and the popularity among alternative tourists, rooms sell out quickly and booking arrangements have to be completed as early as 4 months in advance.
If you are planning to visit the island from mid-July to mid-September, it is recommended to book your stay in March.
