General information

Located 12 km southeast of Rethymno Town, Prasses is a wonderful verdant village with several well-preserved Venetian buildings and old churches.

The area has been inhabited since ancient times, and traces of a Late Minoan settlement can be discerned sprawling along the slopes of the hill. Strolling around, you will also come across the ruins of some Ottoman fortresses, as well as an old Venetian aqueduct.

The village is a great destination for nature lovers, as it has been built at the edge of the lushly vegetated Prassano Gorge. This gorge is the departure point for many hiking excursions in summer, as it offers a nice three-hour route through gigantic rocks and some relatively hard passages that make the trek even more stimulating.
