Lassithi Makris Gialos

General information

Makrigialos or Makry Gialos is a picturesque resort situated on the southern coast of Lassithi, nearly halfway between Ierapetra and Sitia. The village offers many different types of accommodation, from hotels to studios and villas surrounded by an amazing landscape.

The reason behind the popularity of Makrigialos lies in the crystal clear water of its various beaches. In front of the settlement, lies the long and sandy Makrigialos beach, while to the east and west of the village, there are other, equally beautiful beaches. The coastline is lined with bars and traditional taverns that offer delicious local dishes, so it attracts visitors of all ages, as well as families with children, seeking a relaxing holiday. Water taxis also depart from the small fishing port on a regular basis, taking visitors to the charming Chrissi and Koufonisi (Lefki) islets.

While in Makrigialos, one can see the ruins of a Minoan and a Roman villa, or go hiking in the lovely Pefki (Pine) Gorge.
