Location: Zakros Don't miss: Museums guide (free admission dates and other useful info)
The Zakros Natural History Museum is housed on the ground floor of the local community center (Polykentro Zakrou), and is dedicated to the ecosystems of the Sitia Global Geopark.
Through a series of small-scale dioramas, embalmed animals, rocks, fossils, and showcases, this small museum presents the area’s unique geological features, as well as its distinctive flora and fauna species. Visitors also have the chance to watch a video about the Sitia Geopark and use the Park’s website to find out more about UNESCO geoparks all over the world.
The museum only operates during the summer months, while, in winter, a visit can be arranged upon contacting the Sitia Geopark or the municipal authorities of Sitia.
