General information

Located 12 kilometers east of Agios Nikolaos and 22 kilometers north of Ierapetra, Voulisma Beach lies in the second of the three bays that dent the coastline of Istro. It is also known as Golden Beach, a name that is more than well-deserved on account of its fine white sand that gives the waters a turquoise color that is absolutely out of this world! No wonder it is often considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the island and so often figures in postal cards.

Voulisma is well-organized with umbrellas, sunbeds and beach bars, and gets quite busy in the summer months. For greater privacy, you can swim in the nearby Chartalami, a pebbly beach in a small peninsula covered with olive groves. Unfortunately, the extraordinary natural beauty of Voulisma may be spoiled on windy days, as the northwestern winds sometimes carry plastic rubbish as far as the beach.
