General information

On the eastern coast of Crete, 94 km east of Agios Nikolaos and 20 km east of Sitia, lies Skinias, one of the most isolated areas in the whole island. This wild, rocky terrain consists of three bays that form two distinct beaches.

The waters of both beaches sport a deep blue color and run very clear. The beach on the northern side of the area boasts a sandy shore and is the most suitable for swimming. Walking 200 meters to the east, along the rocky shore, you will find the second beach, which is characterized by a pebbly surface. The area in between features some amazing rock formations and is ripe for exploration for those who love scuba diving.

Skinia’s secluded nature provides the perfect conditions for a relaxing time away from any fuss. The only disadvantage is that the beaches lack any sort of amenities such as sunbeds and umbrellas, and there are no trees to give off extra shade. So those visiting should make sure to come well-prepared.

The easiest way to reach Skinias is along a dirt road starting at the settlement of Agathias.
