General information

Sissi is a lovely coastal village and one of the best-known beach resorts in Crete. Despite its popularity, it is still quiet and calm. It is located 40 km east of Heraklion and 26 km northwest of Agios Nikolaos town, near Malia.

The coastline of Sissi is quite rocky, with a few small, sandy beaches scattered throughout. The beach inside the harbor, also known as Limani Beach, is the safest to swim in, as it is protected by a wave-breaker. It also features some umbrellas and showers.

Heading east to Harkama Bay, you will find the sandy beach of Mpoufos. Numerous sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent. The secluded bay of Avlaki, which is like a private beach with crystalline waters and white sand is also found near Sissi and is another good choice for swimming.

Then there is Kalimera Beach in front of the Kalimera Kriti Hotel. The beach is well-organized and has shallow waters, making it ideal for vacationing families with small children. On the other side of the hotel, the final beach in the area, Spiliada, boasts a lot of tamarisk trees that provide some natural shady spots, and is quieter than the other beaches.
