Lassithi Pahia Ammos beach

General information

The village of Pahia Ammos (Thick Sand) is located 20 km southeast of Agios Nikolaos town and about 13 km northeast of Ierapetra, in the Mirambelo Gulf. This coastal village houses about 500 inhabitants, and has a small harbor and a long beach, aptly named Pahia Ammos Beach.

The beach, as its name indicates, has wonderful soft and thick golden sand boarded by crystalline waters. Pebbles decorate the sandy shore and there are several tamarisk trees scattered throughout. Beautiful olive trees and greenhouses embellish the surrounding area.

Most of the beach is open to the north winds, making the sea relatively wavy. The west part of the beach offers protection from the waves with the presence of a peer. It also features some sunbeds and umbrellas. The eastern part isn’t as well protected or organized, however it tends to be more peaceful. It should be noted that the windy currents often carry garbage from the port of Mirabello, which can end up on the shore and waters of the beach.
