General information

Mavros Kolimbos Beach stretches in front of the Agios Panteleimonas settlement, 49 kilometers southeast of Agios Nikolaos and 20 kilometers from Ierapetra. It is a beautiful pebbly beach with pristine azure waters, while its rocky bottom is a perfect spot for snorkeling, as it is home to rich marine life.

The beach is not organized, but some tamarisks along the shore provide natural shade. There are also some taverns and a few rooms to let in the village. Overall, it is a great place for relaxation away from large crowds, but you will need to make sure you are equipped with everything you need, including water shoes.

If you visit the area, it is worth combining a swim in Mavros Kolimbos with a hike to the nearby Gorge of the Red Butterflies, which owes its name to the flutters of butterflies that can be observed there in springtime.
