Lassithi Makrigialos beach

General information

The coastal village of Makrigialos (or Makry Gialos) lies 24 km east of Ierapetra and 60 km southeast of Agios Nikolaos, in the center of Kala Nera Bay. Thanks to its long stretch of sand and its crystalline blue waters, Makrigialos has become one of the most popular tourist resorts in the area. Extending for over 1 kilometer, the main beach is known as Chani or simply the Long Beach, and it is well-organized with umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and water sports facilities. Being shallow and relatively sheltered from the wind, the waters of Makrigialos are perfectly safe for children too.

In the wider region, visitors will find the ruins of a Minoan and a Roman mansion, as well as a plethora of other magnificent beaches, such as Kalamokania, Katovigli, Lagoufa, Diaskari, and Lagada.
