Lassithi Koutsounari beach

General information

The Long Beach of Agios Ioannis, also known as Koutsounari Beach, stretches in front of the Koutsounari village, 6 kilometers east of Ierapetra. Reaching a length of around 5 kilometers, it never looks crowded and is ideal for relaxation and fun.

Koutsounari is strewn with a mixture of grey sand and pebbles, which is typical of Lassithi’s southern shore, while, as soon as you enter the sea, the pebbles give place to fine sand. The beach boasts magnificent azure waters and is organized at places, as there are numerous hotels and taverns, as well as an organized camping site. On the eastern part of the beach, visitors will find the sheltered Psaropoula Bay, which is another great spot for swimming and water sports, while further to the east, in front of Kakkos Bay Hotel, it is possible to see ancient fish tanks carved by the Romans on the soft sandstone.
