General information

Located less than 500 meters from Lake Voulismeni, Kitroplatia lies in the very heart of Agios Nikolaos. It is a lovely beach with a combination of sand and colorful pebbles, while its pristine waters take on fantastic turquoise and deep blue hues. For this reason, it has been awarded a Blue Flag on several occasions over the past decades.

It is a well-organized beach, with umbrellas, sunbeds, and showers, as well as plenty of options in terms of accommodation, food and drinks. This makes it ideal for anyone looking for a beautiful and perfectly safe beach without having to leave the comfort of the city. Right in front of Kitroplateia, visitors will find a small, cobblestone square with some of the best ouzeris in Agios Nikolaos. On summer nights, the beach is also a great place to gaze at the full moon as it emerges from behind the mountains.

In the vicinity of the beach stands a modern sculpture known as Amalthea’s horn, a symbol of abundance inspired by the mythical goat that nurtured Zeus when he was born. Kitroplateia itself owes its name to the citron trade, which flourished in Agios Nikolaos till the early 20th century. Inside the water, one can still see the large slabs that were once used to load the fruit onto cargo ships.
