General information

The long and sandy beach of Almiros is located 2.5 km south of Agios Nikolaos, near the delta formed by the river of the same name as it opens into the sea. Due to its proximity to the capital and its beautiful crystalline waters, Almiros is quite popular in the summer and is well-connected to the city by public buses.

This sandy beach is ideal for anyone seeking relaxation in a landscape of great natural beauty and it is also great for families, as the cerulean waters are shallow and usually calm. Moreover, they are always quite cool, as a result of the river waters.

Near the beach, the river delta forms a nearly 12-acre-long wetland, covered with towering eucalyptus trees, reeds, and tamarisks, which is home to numerous bird species like ducks, herons, and seagulls. In the spring and autumn months, flocks of migratory birds also stop here to rest during their long journey. No wonder Almiros beach has been awarded a Blue Flag on several occasions!

Almiros is well organized with umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and toilets, while equipment for motor-driven water sports is also available. Near the beach, visitors can also find accommodation options, taverns, and beach bars, as well as other tourist facilities. Bridges have also been constructed over the river, facilitating access to the beach.
