General information

Vori is a picturesque village in southern Heraklion, located less than 4 kilometers from the Minoan Palace of Phaistos and 3 kilometers from the archaeological site of Agia Triada.

It is a tranquil village of great cultural interest, as the area has been inhabited since the early Minoan times. Surrounded by olive groves and farms, it combines modern country houses with traditional stone-built residences, while there are also some nice taverns where you can savor local delicacies.

In the heart of the village stands the awarded Museum of Cretan Ethnology, which offers a well-rounded insight into the cultural and traditional life in Crete from the Minoan times till the late 19th century. Within a short distance from Vori, you can also find the now deserted Monastery of Kera Kardiotissa with its great 14th-century frescoes, as well as a number of other old churches.

In 1978, the Ministry of Culture declared Vori a listed traditional settlement, while, in 1995, it became a sister village of the Camblanes and Meynac settlements in France.
