The El Greco Museum (also known as the Museum of Domenikos Theotokopoulos) can be found in the village of Fodele, 34 kilometers northwest of Heraklion Town.

The museum was established in 1998 in a restored stone-built edifice opposite the Church of Panagia. This centuries-old residence is supposed to have been the painter's parental home as the artist himself had mentioned being born in a village 25 kilometers from Heraklion Town, in a house built near a Byzantine church.

Inside the museum, you will find replicas of some of the painter's most significant works, as well as the recreation of an atelier and information about his family. There is also a collection of articles and rare photographs, some of which were taken in 1934 when professors from the University of Valladolid came to Fodele to pay tribute to the great artist. In the courtyard, visitors will find a small cafe shaded by centuries-old trees and an imposing bust of El Greco that dominates the entrance to the museum.

To admire the only two original works of the artist that can be found on Cretan soil, you can visit the Historical Museum of Crete.
