Location: Treis Ekklisies

The Aba Waterfall and Canyon are located on the southern side of the island, about 52 km from Heraklion Town. Nestled within the rugged Asterousia Mountains, these natural wonders have become popular tourist attractions over the years. The area is also a beloved hiking destination, offering visitors a well-maintained trail and plenty of stops along the way.

The canyon itself is characterized by its lush greenery and intricate rock formations. The waterfall is found at the end of the canyon and has a total height of 145 meters, making it one of the highest waterfalls in the country. The sight of the flowing water cascading down the rocky terrain is truly breathtaking and provides visitors with plenty of photo opportunities. This is the ideal destination for those seeking some moments of solitude amidst the beautiful Cretan nature.

A road leading to the waterfall can be reached by following a sign after the village of Paranymfoi towards the beach of Treis Ekklisies. It should be noted that the area hosts a large population of birds of prey and is better avoided during the winter breeding season. The path alongside the cliff can also prove a bit tricky to traverse and lacks protective barriers, so those making the hike should proceed with extreme caution.
