General information

Located 58 km south of Heraklion Town and 14 km east of the Treis Ekklisies fishing village, Voidomatis (or Voidomatos) is a secluded beach fringed by the steep southern slopes of the Asterousia Mountains. It can be found right at the exit of the imposing Mesosfini Gorge, heaven for experienced canyoners thanks to its high vertical descents and waterfalls.

Voidomatis is a pristine beach with coarse golden sand and turquoise waters. The defining feature of this beach is a huge underwater cave with several sub-cavities, which can be found on its eastern side. Called the Eye of the Ox (Greek: mati tou vodiou), it is this cave that has given the beach its name. Voidomatis is not organized, and there aren’t any tourist facilities like umbrellas and sunbeds or food and accommodation options. However, this is precisely what makes it ideal for anyone seeking peace and tranquility.

The beach can be accessed by car via a rough dust road starting at Treis Ekklisies.
