General information

Agia Pelagia Mononaftis Beach is one of the closest beaches to Agia Pelagia Village, which attracts many tourists during the summer. It lies 24 km northwest of Heraklion Town, and its name means lonely sailor in Greek, deriving from the legend that once a ship sank there and only one sailor survived. The rock of the same name can be seen floating 50 meters off the coast.

It is a small cove that’s covered in coarse sand and pebbles, boasting lovely turquoise waters. The shore is well-organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, and its rocky seabed is ideal for snorkeling and fishing. In its deep waters, you will find an amazing variety of sea life, such as eels, octopus, scorpion fish, sea anemones, and beautiful shells.
