More information about Omonia
During the day, you might see young artists performing in the middle of the square, Athenians having their morning coffee and others rushing to catch the metro.
Omonia is a multicultural spot with many contradictions.
Many shops, cozy cafes and restaurants, Greek taverns and bars are situated near the square.
The district of Exarchia, the most underground and alternative neighborhood of Athens, is located adjacent to Omonia.
Unfortunately, the square was one of the places that gradually became inapproachable due to the chaotic traffic.
It remains an integral part of the city center despite the present conditions.
However, it is recommended that visitors are careful with their personal belongings if they stroll around Omonia. Despite the area's redevelopment, incidents such as pickpocketing are still occurring, especially at night when shops close and the streets become more deserted. It is also recommended that people prefer main streets where cars and pedestrians pass (such as Panepistimiou Avenue) and avoid dark alleys.
