The veritable oldest restaurant in Athens, ‘Thanasis 1948’ was established in 1948. It’s a wonderful melange between an authentic Greek taverna and a top-notch grill house. Its 3rd generation of family owners has maintained the old school décor and the incredible quality of the meat, whilst updating new grilling methods and adding in modern flavours such as Jack Daniels smoked black angus or picanha alongside classics such as chicken or lamb chops with the family’s homemade (read secret) lemon dressing.
The meat is grilled to perfection, oozing with melt-in-your-mouth goodness. Make sure you leave a little bit of room for their profiteroles dripping with hot chocolate sauce. Located in a quiet corner in Patissia, this is where Athenians head to for an indulgent bite and quite simply the ideal spot for ‘Tsiknopempti,’ the Greek meat-fest before Lent begins.
