Barbarella is the continuation of one of Greece’s legendary discos! Back in 1983 and throughout the 80s, Barbarella was the gem of Athens’ nightlife. Crowds of young adults and teenagers would fill its three dance floors until early in the morning. Schools and famous magazines hosted their parties all year long, with the funky music of legendary Athens DJ, Petros Bratakos. However, in 1994 the disco had to close down due to financial trouble, while disco had already started to fade as a music genre.
In 2010, right next to the old venue of the discotheque, on Syggrou Avenue, Petros Bratakos decided to host a disco party with DJs from the 80s in Barbarella’s memory. This party gathered a crowd of 1200 Athenians! Since then, Barbarella has been back in business, hosting lively disco parties almost every three months.
Petros Bratakos is still performing as a DJ, with his incredible collection of records and his unmatched skill being his strongest weapon. The decoration in the discotheque reminds guests of an earlier time, filled with disco balls and bright and colorful lights!
