Skiathos Megali Ammos beach

General information

Megali Ammos is a long and well-organized beach situated within walking distance from Skiathos Town. This is one of the most popular beaches in Skiathos due to its beautiful crystalline waters and the extended sandy coast, hence the name Megali Ammos, which translates to Big Sand in Greek. The sea is shallow and calm, making this an ideal spot for families.

Megali Ammos Beach boasts several facilities, including two rows of sunbeds and umbrellas. There is a water sports center, offering training lessons for all ages and providing beach-goers with the necessary equipment for waterskiing, parasailing, and paddleboarding, among others. A collection of tavernas, cafes, and bars line the shore, perfect for enjoying a refreshing drink and delectable meal with sea views. The area is known for its tourist infrastructure as there are many hotels and other kinds of accommodation.

Due to its proximity to the town center, Megali Ammos Beach tends to get crowded, especially during peak summer months. For more privacy, walk around the rocks and head east way. Otherwise, you can visit the beach in late spring or early fall, preferably in May and September, when the weather is still pleasant, the temperatures high and the people fewer.
