Reaching Kefalonia via ferry from Athens is unattainable as it is not very practical based on the island's location. However, it is achievable to do so from three regions on the mainland, all situated in Western Greece - Kyllini, Patra and Astakos.
Ferries departing from Kyllini arrive at the port of Poros while ferries from Patra and Astakos at the port of Sami. The fastest crossings are those from Kyllini (1.5 hours).
Kefalonia is also connected with the nearby Ithaca. Routes to Lefkada and Zakynthos are often available in the high season, too.
Seasonal routes from/to Italy (Bari) may are also available during summer.
