The Nautical and Environmental Museum of Fiscardo in Kefalonia was established in 1999 by the Fiscardo Nautical and Environmental Club (FNEC), a non-profit organization. Although FNEC has been dismantled, the project has been handled by Fiscardo Divers since then, and it is being continued with much enthusiasm.

This museum was created with the help of international volunteers and in collaboration with the Ionian Research Centre. It is housed in the building of the former primary school of Fiscardo, which was restored and renovated for this purpose.

Its primary goal is to promote the interest and sensitivity of people towards the marine environment and to encourage actions on environmental protection. It showcases exhibits related to monk seals, Caretta-Caretta turtles, whales, invertebrates and plankton native to the area, animal skeletons, the archive of the FNEC, the geology of the island, archaeological finds, marine pollution and the process of fossilization, among other topics.

It incorporates interactive exhibits to pique visitors’ interest and organizes actions in collaboration with schools and educational programs.

How to get there

The Nautical Museum is located in Fiscardo Village.

Private transfers: We recommend using an online pre-booked Kefalonia transfer service, which provides transfer by taxi, minibus, or private VIP car and arranging a pickup directly from the airport, port, or your hotel. Alternatively, there's the option of arranging a pickup by a local driver directly at the following numbers: 0030 694 511 8866, 0030 694 530 6145, 0030 699 561 9605, or booking your taxi online.

Car rental: There's the option of renting a car in Kefalonia and picking it up directly from the airport, port, or your hotel. Using a rental car allows visitors to discover the Nautical Museum and many other places of interest in Kefalonia at their own pace.

Public transport: The central bus station of the island is located at Argostoli. There are buses from Argostoli to Fiscardo during the day. Consider that time schedules might change according to the season. Check the official timetables here.
Tip: Since buses don’t always stop at every scheduled stop of their itinerary, our advice to visitors is to inform the driver about their final destination, so that he makes a stop there.
