Paros Lefkes

General information

Lefkes in Paros is one of the loveliest villages of the Cyclades. Situated in the central part of Paros, it lies 11 km southeast of Parikia. The village has around 500 inhabitants and is built at an altitude of 300 meters above sea level, on a verdant hill covered with olive trees and pine trees. Its location offers a breathtaking view of the neighboring island of Naxos.

The charming settlement used to be the capital of Paros during the Middle Ages and is full of little traditional whitewashed houses, presenting Venetian architecture vestiges. It also hosts enchanting churches dating from the 15th century, whitewashed windmills and beautiful dovecotes. The loveliness of Lefkes is still untouched by mass tourism, which helps it maintain its authenticity.

The Church of Agia Triada (Holy Trinity) is the village's main church. It is a beautiful Byzantine church made of fine white marble, glimmering under the sun. Rare and valuable Byzantine icons are housed in this church, too. In Lefkes also lie the Folklore Art Museum, which exhibits various local tools and clothing, and the Museum of Aegean Folk Culture.

From this marvelous village, the Byzantine Road, a paved footpath dating from the Byzantine period, leads to the village of Prodromos and ends up at the sea.

Guests can find restaurants across Lefkes, mainly serving traditional dishes. Some accommodations are available in the village, too, ranging from simple, neat rooms to villas with swimming pools.

Last but not least, in the late summer, the local cultural society organizes the Karavola Festival, the biggest feast that takes place in the village. Parian delicacies and abundant wine are offered, with dance and fun lasting until the early morning hours.

    Loved the family atmosphere
Magnificent village in the mountains. No view to the sea but to the wild landscape of Paros. I loved the white houses and the arched streets. I also loved the grandmas who were watering the gardens and the grandpas playing cards in the square. Have a Greek coffee on the pot in the square under the plane tree. Lefkes was the first capital of Paros many decades ago. Today they are not tourist spot but a lovely village away from mass tourism. You have a car/ motoribke to go there. I don't know if a bus goes to Lefkes, normally it goes, but we had rented a motorbike to get around the island more easily. Around Lefkes, there are lots of churches and monasteries.
